Pregnancy Period of mammal
is also called as Gestation Period.
It is a stage of carrying developing fetus within the Female body. Every mammal
has a particular time of Gestation
Period. Some of the period is very long and some are very short. This
period vastly depends on the size of each animal. Elephant have the longest Gestation Period of the whole animal
Kingdom. They carry their baby for around 2 years before giving birth. On the
other hand some mothers give birth to her baby within a month. Here we are discussing
about 10 shortest Gestation Period of
animal kingdom.

KANGAROO:

Pregnancy Period of Female
Kangaroo is around 21 to 40 days. She can give birth up to 4 babies at one
time. After the birth they clean their pouch for the Joey (baby). Joeys are
much smaller than mother. She always carries the joey in her pouch for next 16
to 17 month. Based on shortest Gestation
Period kangaroo is in 10th position.

SQUIRREL:

Female Squirrel (gray) can give
birth twice in a year. They can give birth of 3 to 4 babies at once. The Gestation period of squirrel is 30 to
35 days. Kittens are blind when they born. They have no hair on their body. After
4 weeks they can open their eyes and after 10 week they leave their nest to
explore the nature.

Period length of Rabbit is 31 days. Doe (female rabbit) can
give birth of 1 to 12 babies at a time. Pregnancy period wise this is the 8th shortest Gestation period of animal kingdom.

MUSKRAT:

Female
muskrat produces baby several times in a year. Her Pregnancy lasts for 27 to 29
days. She gives birth of 6 to 7 babies at a time. They are blind and full red
colored skin when born. Babies depend on their mother for 4 weeks. After 6
weeks, young muskrats are ready to leave the den. Length wise this is the 7th shortest Gestation Period of the animal kingdom.
6. WOMBAT:

Time length wise this is the 6th
shortest pregnancy Period in the animal Kingdom. Female wombats stay pregnant for 27 days and give
birth of only one baby. The baby wombat continues
to grow up in the protection of her pouch for around 4 months. After 5 months
the baby is out to explore their world.
5. GERBIL:

They have
the 5th shortest Gestation period in animal kingdom. The
period is around 24 days. Female gerbil can
give birth of around six baby gerbils
or pups at a time. The mother takes care of them until they grow up
for the outside world.
4. RAT:

The Gestation period of rats varies for
20 - 22 days. Rats are in 4th
position in this table. They can give birth of 5 to 10 young rats at a
time. Young rats grows up in their mother’s protection and care for around 2 months.
3. HAMSTER:

Female hamster gives birth of a baby in 20
days. Under pregnancy period females spent more time to eat than any other
work. The mother’s care and protection for young hamster last for 5 weeks.

Female mouse stays pregnant for around 19 days. After Pregnancy Period they
give birth of 5 to 12 young mice at a time. Young babies stays with their
mother for 1 month.

Female
opossum takes only 12-13 days after mating and gives birth of babies. They are
at top position of shortest Gestation
period of the whole animal kingdom. They produce 6 to 8 pups at a time.
Female carries their babies on their pouch till age of 2 months. After 2 months
female carries them on their back for 6 months age.
